Import Excel File in Inventor 2010

I hope you might have enjoyed learning the concept of AutoSave Reminder in Inventor 2010.

In this article we shall review the concept of Importing an Excel file in Autodesk Inventor 2010.

Environment: Sketching

Access: Sketch > Insert > Points

Shortcut Key (Using Alt Option) > S > OI

Open Excel Spread Sheet and type the following values for X and Y as shown below

Name the file as Excel Data.

Now click on Points from the Sketch Tab (Insert) as shown below

Now select the Excel Data file from the Open Dialogue Box as shown below

Note: You can also import the points in Three Dimension which includes X Y and Z values

Note: If the spreadsheet contains Z-axis values, only X and Y values are imported into a 2D sketch.

The format required for imported points is:

  • The table of points must be the first worksheet in the file.
  • The table always starts in cell A1.
  • If the first cell (A1) contains a unit of measure, it is applied to all points in the spreadsheet. If no units are specified, the default file units are used.
  • Columns must be defined in this order: Column A is the X coordinate, Column B is the Y coordinate, and Column C is the Z coordinate.
